a few companies like Boom Supersonic are trying to bring supersonic passenger jets back, aiming for the 2030s. hopefully they figure out the noise/cost issues that killed Concorde.

a 2000 crash near Paris killed all 109 people onboard (runway debris punctured a fuel tank) and that really tanked public confidence, even though it was a specific mechanical thing, not a design flaw.
retired in 2003, the 2000 Air France crash really hurt public trust, plus maintenance costs were brutal and post-9/11 passenger numbers tanked. nothing's replaced it commercially since, though a few startups are trying to bring supersonic travel back.
