twitter tried reviving it as "Byte" a few years later, never really caught on the same way. timing matters a lot in social apps apparently.

six second videos being the whole format forced a level of creativity you don't really see anywhere else, kind of a shame it's gone.
twitter just couldn't figure out how to make money off it and a lot of top creators jumped ship to youtube/instagram where they could actually monetize. shut down in 2016. funny enough a bunch of huge tiktok stars started out as vine kids.
