the "save" icon on basically every piece of software is still a floppy disk, which is wild given most gen z has never actually seen one.
USB drives and cloud storage made them pointless for regular people by the mid-2000s. but bizarrely some legacy government/industrial systems kept using them for way longer than you'd expect, the US nuclear arsenal reportedly used 8-inch floppies up until 2019.
Sony was the last major company to stop manufacturing them, in like 2011, way later than most people would guess.
