Con artist Victor Lustig posed as a government official in 1925 and convinced a scrap dealer to pay him for the Eiffel Tower's 'scrap metal', then fled with the money and pulled the same scam again months later. He was eventually caught for counterfeiting and died in Alcatraz in 1947.
