most of the "not ready for primetime players" (Belushi, Chase, Radner, Murray etc) went on to huge movie careers in the 80s. John Belushi died of an overdose in 1982 though, way too young.
Gilda Radner passed away from ovarian cancer in 1989. the rest mostly stayed working in comedy/film for decades, Chevy Chase and Bill Murray became massive movie stars.
